India ranked 97th in Global Hunger Index 2016

India was on October 13, 2016 ranked a lowly 97 among 118 developing countries in the Global Hunger Index (GHI) 2016, released by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).
Overall, the Central African Republic, Chad, and Zambia fared the worst while Argentina fared the best among the countries included in the study.
Countries worse than India include extremely poor African countries such as Niger, Chad, Ethiopia and Sierra Leone besides two of India's neighbours Afghanistan and Pakistan. Other neighbours Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and China are all ranked above India.

India was ranked 83 in 2000 and 102 in 2008 with GHI scores of 38.2 and 36 respectively. This implies that, while hunger levels in India have diminished somewhat, the improvement has been outstripped by several other countries. Overall, global hunger levels are down by about 29% compared to 2000.

0 China overtakes US again as world's top crude importer
China imported record volumes of crude oil in September 2016, eclipsing the United States as the world's top buyer of foreign oil as Beijing's state reserves 'shipped in cheap crude to fill new storage tanks.

September's crude imports rose 18 percent from a year earlier to 33.06 million tonnes or 8.04 million barrels per day (bpd) on daily basis, customs data showed. The buying outpaced the US four-week average assessed by the US Energy Information Administration of 7.98 million bpd at the end of September.

It marked the second time this year - but the third month in the past twelve - that China's imports have overtaken the United States, and reflected contracts signed in July when renewed selling pressure pushed crude below $42 a barrel. Oil has since recovered to around $50 a barrel.
