The Central Board of Secondary Education will discontinue the practice of re-evaluation of marks for all subjects for class 12 from 2017. While the options of verification of marks (calculation errors) and access to photocopy of evaluated answer scripts will continue, the final stage of re¬evaluation (complete check of answers) has been discontinued.
As of now, the board re-evaluates the marks for Class 12 students, for 10 of the roughly 250 subjects, if a student is not satisfied with marks. The practice of re-evaluation, however, is not old: it has begun in 2014.The re-evaluation facility was valid for 11 subjects -English (core and elective), Hindi (core and elective), mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, business studies, economics and ac¬countancy.
Under the re-evaluation system, still valid till 2016, a candidate first has to apply for verification of marks, followed by an application for photocopy of the answer sheets.
Finally, one can apply for re-evalu¬ation in the above-mentioned subjects. Also, there is a cap on the number of questions a candidate could demand re-evaluation for.
. A senior CBSE official while giving the reason for discontinuing the process, of re-evaluation said that that there were very few complaints from students and, among the requests received, a negligible number were found to be genuine ones.
. The evaluation system already had a three-tier process, and this ensured there was little possibility of an error.
. Further, the CBSE had also to prepare to hold the compartment examina¬tions each year which created extra pressure.
